It’s lovely when the sun comes out. However, it’s really important to remember that extreme heat can be dangerous and you need to be able to recognise the early warning signs in yourself or someone else.
It is vital that you remain hydrated.
Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are the most serious problems and some of the early signs are headaches, starting to feel thirsty, stomach ache, feeling very sick, or you may even start vomiting, have cramps and generally feel unwell.
The key is to get anyone who is showing these signs into a cool place – a shaded area, for example – and get them to drink lots of water.
A sports drink is ok for rehydration, as this will help replace the salts lost through sweating.
If the person does not start to improve once you have given them water to rehydrate then it is vital that you seek help by calling 999/112 immediately.
Stay safe!
